Hi Home-Lovers!

I hope you got the chance to check out yesterday’s blog post on the amazing home tours I got to take while in the USA recently. They were all a part of the annual Homearama event in Louisville, Kentucky - 10 premium display homes open for viewing. For us design-lovers - it was heavenly!

I’ll be posting a “house a day” this week and my goal for you is that amongst the wide range of styles, you’ll find some inspiration to get you excited about your home for the new year.

Now let’s get started with our home #2!

THE COURTYARD

Builder / Interior Design:  Caliber Homes & Remodeling

Area:  607m2

The Courtyard is a beautiful Southern style home with Victorian accents - it would be right at home in lovely Charleston or Savannah. Just a few mind boggling numbers - the exterior has 188 detailed timber brackets and 20 large timber corbels. Try pricing that up with your builder!!

A really impressive feature of this home was walking into the Living / Dining area and looking straight through to an internal courtyard, accessed by 5 sets of Mahogany French doors. The feature pendants in random sizes and heights drew your attention and framed the view.

Those elegant arched windows combined with other curves like the copper rangehood tied the traditional bones of the house together, while modern furniture freshened the spaces up. I’m normally envious of the standard no-cornice detail in American homes, but I thought these spaces could have done with some detail to the ceilings. Your thoughts?

The kitchen was beautiful in classic Shaker style with inset doors. The copper rangehood was definitely the star attraction. I loved the feature black window frames - they added a nice formality to the space. Note the large timber cornice moulding up top - perhaps with so much going on here they chose not to add cornices elsewhere?

The feature pendants over the dining area made for a nice change to your typical linear or chandelier and the glass really sparkled, backlit by the sunny courtyard. These walnut timber shelving recesses either side of the fireplace were super stylish and I loved the library lights above - they were real “mood makers”.

Modern country style dining

You can see the classic fireplace to the left, such a shame to spoil it with a TV!! While all of the pieces that made up this space were stunning, this felt a bit cluttered to me and the space was too small for the amount of furnishings - but definitely very stylish. You can see staircase in the background - that’s up next…

A beautifully detailed staircase surrounded by feature black framed windows. I love this finely detailed balustrading that visually connects with the adjacent window bars. Also note the trimwork - skirting following the staircase and architraves to the windows - its details like this that really finish off a space.

One of my favourite rooms in the home - this stunning office space. All in Walnut timber, love the symmetry, love the verticality of those gorgeous windows.

A well fitted out mud room (without too much mud - yet??) looking very serene - wouldn’t you just looooove all that extra storage?! Love a benchseat in a mudroom - perfect sense!

Check this laundry out - perfectly planned and fitted out for max. efficiency and joy of use! I like the subtle texture of those wall tiles. The narrow open shelves on the far wall are a nice detail to finish the space off. Note to self for next project!

Thanks for joining me again on this Top 5 Home Tour - I’m loving reliving these experiences with you all. Stay tuned for Home #3 tomorrow - too elegant for it’s own good!!
